Odisha, previously called Orissa, is a state in Eastern India. It is the eighth-largest state in the country by land area and the eleventh-largest in the country by population, with a population of more than 41 million people. Odisha is distinguished by its tribal cultures, ancient Hindu temples, and the intricately carved Mukteshvara temple at the capital city, Bhubaneswar. Odia is the official language of the state and is also where the Chilika Lake, the largest wintering ground of the Indian subcontinent for migratory birds, is located.
